We had to take Gracie & Ella [our twin newfoundlands] to the home to check they'd get on. Released into a pen, Harry set off sniffing for vermin & such, Gracie & Ella settled down for a kip.
"He'll take all the walks you can throw at him but we're not sure what he's like off the lead."
He came with a bed, two winter coats [they are hardy little animals and do not need them] and a shoebox full of toys. Obviously well loved and looked after, we suspect the couple who owned him either a) had a child & Harry got jealous so they played safe or b) left him indoors all day while they worked and his yapping annoyed the neighbours or c) he bit one of them. There may be a d), e) or mixture of a), b) & c) scenario but they didn't leave an address....
He arrived with a proper valeting and we hoped he'd enjoy being brushed but no - 'Carol' gives him a No.2 all over every six weeks or so and he needs to be muzzled. The Dog's Trust peeps must have pooch-whispering powers or something.
That's his posh lead, it's too short. The long pink one is Gracie's 'trainer' from when she was a pup - I hate those extending leads - the noise they make alone is infuriating.
He hasn't swum with the newfies but seems fascinated by water - when I try to pick him up near the drink he seems to guess what I might be going to do...
He loves the car - all the pooches do. He barks if it rains, if there are puddles, whenever we pass a usual walking spot, whenever the indicators go on, if we pass a cyclist, if we pass a postman.....
Harry.
Update: 9th January 2014
Sadly, Harry's owner, "Uncle Ray" has passed away and Harry needs a new home. We are going to give him a trial run in London, there are other parties interested so hopefully he won't have to return to The Dogs Trust. They are brilliant and he'd probably be snapped up, but it would be a betrayal to give him away - I wouldn't be able to see him, know when he's well or ill, he'd miss us, miss Hugo his Newfie friend....
Fans of the little pooch will be kept up-to-date with his progress. x
